South West hub for Action for Children's Arts
artsedsw are delighted to be working with Action for Children's Arts (ACA) and representing and promoting them as their south west hub.
Action for Children's Arts is a national charity and membership organisation which holds at its heart Article 31 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child:
'Every child has the right to rest and leisure, to engage in play and recreational activities appropriate to the age of the child and to participate freely in cultural life and the arts.'
ACA aims to support these rights in three key ways:
By campaigning for the right of all children in the UK to experience high quality arts experiences as an integral part of their childhood
By connecting people within and across the cultural and education sectors, across art-forms and across the regions and nations of the UK
By celebrating achievement, dedication and best practice in artistic activity for and with children.
Hubs
ACA have created hubs to join up those who believe in their values, to support the work, the practitioners who make it and the children who receive it. The purpose of the artsedsw hub is two-fold: to support and promote the aims of ACA within the south west and to contribute to the overall management of ACA as a UK-wide organisation. artsedsw was recognised as an organisation with an established reputation as a centre for children's arts in the cultural and education sectors and selected to be the south west hub from 2010 - 2013. As the south west hub, artsedsw:
- promotes ACA through existing national and regional networks
- recruits new ACA members
- provides opportunities for networking between children’s arts professionals
- initiates activities to support aims shared by ACA and artsedsw
- contributes to the development of ACA as the voice of children's arts in the UK
Donna Baber, Manager of Creative Learning Agency is acting as co-ordinator of the hub and has become a member of the ACA Executive, attending meetings on a quarterly basis, reporting on progress in the south west and contributing in other ways to the work of the Executive.
